Sixteen tree-planting projects supported in British Columbia

On May 12, 2026, the Honourable Nathalie Provost, Secretary of State (Nature), highlighted 16 projects across British Columbia. These projects represent an investment over $272 million through the 2 Billion Trees (2BT) program to plant more than 95 million trees that will help protect nature and biodiversity in the province by restoring critical habitats for species at risk and wildfire affected areas and by supporting Indigenous-led reforestation efforts through tree planting. All projects were approved with funding prior to the Budget 2025 announcement to wind down the 2BT program.

Project name: Aggregation of 2 Billion Tree Projects
Recipient: British Columbia Ministry of Forests
Location: Various locations in British Columbia
Funding: $97,571,355
Description: The province will bring partners together to plant up to 20 million trees with the primary objective to support habitat restoration and conservation related to species at risk and species of interest across the province.

Project name: BC Forest Investment Program 2 Billion Tree Restoration (Wildfire Restoration)
Recipient: British Columbia Ministry of Forests
Location: Various locations in British Columbia
Funding: $99,450,000
Description: This project will plant an initial 53.8 million trees by 2027 on public lands across the province. Representing a joint investment over four years, an additional number of trees will be determined for planting in later years.

Project name: Nursery Expansion and Tree Planting for Wildfire Restoration Within the Secwepemc First Nation Traditional Territories
Recipient: Secwepemcl'ecw Restoration and Stewardship Society
Location: Falkland, British Columbia
Funding: $28,889,469
Description: The project will expand the Secwepemcl'ecw First Nation's wildfire restoration program by increasing annual tree planting. The Secwepemcl'ecw Restoration and Stewardship Society nursery expansion will provide an additional seven million trees to be planted in wildfire-degraded lands and support landscape adaptation to climate change within the Secwepemcl'ecw territories.

Project name: White Rock Lake Wildfire Restoration

Location: Vernon, British Columbia
Funding: $12,445,391
Description: Employing community members, the project will plant 6.56 million trees over six years to rehabilitate reserve lands and surrounding lands damaged by wildfires in 2021.

Project name: Millions of Trees
Recipient: Metis Nation - British Columbia
Location: Surrey, British Columbia
Funding: $12,375,000
Description: The project will build the Metis Nation of British Columbia's capacity to deliver their Millions of Trees program and plant three million trees in wildfire-impacted areas across the province.

Project name: Habitat Restoration
Recipient: British Columbia Ministry of Forest (via the Ministry of Water, Lands, Resource Stewardship)
Location: Various locations across British Columbia
Funding: $5,510,532
Description: The project will support the restoration of critical habitat for multiple species at risk by planting 2.2 million trees over three years.

Project name: Lil'wat Nation Tree Planting
Recipient: Lil'wat Nation
Location: Mount Currie, British Columbia
Funding: $4,295,743
Description: The project will plant 1.4 million trees and establish a tree nursery to support additional tree planting in the Lil'wat Nation's Territory. The trees planted will restore the natural habitat at the Mt. Athelstan's fire area and the Mount Meager (Qwe lqwe lusten) slide area.

Project name: Healing Our Land: Tree Planting for Climate Adaptation
Recipient: Old Massett Village Council
Location: Old Massett, British Columbia
Funding: $1,967,167
Description: The project will build tree planting capacity in Old Massett Village Council territory to restore sacred traditional lands.

Project name: FX Road Creek Watershed Reforestation and Restoration Planting
Recipient: Shackan Indian Band
Location: Merrit-Lytton Creek, British Columbia
Funding: $1,823,761
Description: The project will plant trees to rehabilitate a stretch of the Nicola riverbank and 339 hectares of upland forest that were damaged by the 2021 Lytton Creek Wildfires and atmospheric river events within the Traditional Territory of the Shackan Indian Band.

Project name: Simpcw Forest Ecosystem Restoration Project
Recipient: Simpcw Resources Group
Location: Barriere, British Columbia
Funding: $1,738,020
Description: The project will restore and protect subalpine ecosystems impacted by wildfires and beetle infestations by collecting seeds and planting 292,080 whitebark pine trees across 427.5 hectares of land in the Simpcw First Nation traditional territory.

Project name: Continuing Restoration of Caribou Habitat in the Muskeg of Fort Nelson First Nation Territory
Recipient: Fort Nelson First Nation
Location: Fort Nelson, British Columbia
Funding: $1,509,858
Description: The project will plant 455,000 seedlings of native species in the muskeg of Fort Nelson First Nation Territory for the restoration of critical boreal habitat along remote seismic lines.

Project name: Ktisumkalum Reforestation
Recipient: Kitsumkalum Indian Band
Location: Terrace-Prince Rupert, British Columbia
Funding: $1,344,000
Description: The project will plant 335,700 trees and restore 270 hectares of previously forested land across Kitsumkalum traditional territory.

Project name: Xpey' (Cedar) Cultural Restoration
Recipient:  Quw'utsun' Cultural Connections Society
Location: Duncan, British Columbia
Funding: $1,066,013
Description: The Xpey' project will plant 8,175 trees of cultural significance across Hul'q'umi'num territory on southern Vancouver Island.

Project name: Road Restoration in the Kitselas Traditional Territory
Recipient: Wai Wah Environmental
Location: Terrace- Prince Rupert, British Columbia
Funding: $987,636
Description: The project will plant 75,000 trees on unused resource roads to address habitat fragmentation and the use of linear features by wildlife, sequester carbon from the atmosphere and further develop capacity within the Kitselas First Nation.

Project name: Restoring Watershed Function and Critical Salmon Habitat in a Declared Salmon Park Indigenous Protected and Conserved Area (IPCA) in Nootka Sound
Recipient: Nootka Sound Watershed Society
Location: Gold River-Nookta Sound, British Columbia
Funding: $917,648
Description: The project will plant 82,305 trees to restore 22.1 hectares of riparian habitat along salmon-bearing streams impacted by historic forestry operations and 4.3 hectares of uplands forest impacted by landslide events in the Oktwanch and Muchalaht watersheds.

Project name: Riparian Recovery - Post 2023 Wildfire Restoration on Private Property Riparian Areas (Wildfire Restoration)
Recipient: British Columbia Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship
Location: Various locations in British Columbia
Funding: $810,000
Description: The project offers an alternative pathway for the province and municipal government to allow landowners to rebuild and plant 1,500 trees for supporting the restoration and protection of riparian zones.
